Manila Forwarders' BALIKBAYAN BOX scandal

Manila Forwarder the BALIKBAYAN box distribution company became a genuine name of pain for many Filipinos who live in overseas. There is no mistake of the customers who already dealt with Manila Forwarders as the consultant of this company, Manny Paez, knows the odd tricks to rip-off people.

The next URL is the official website of Manny Paez’s BALIKBAYAN box transport business Manila Forwarders:

http://www.manilaforwarder.com/

Alike the other scam sites, this one also tried its best to show themselves as one of the prominent. In addition, their try was to make people believe that they always stick with all sorts of rules in home and abroad. ; thus, they are licensed and insured.

However, it worked for one of my friends who was studying in NY.  That poor guy works hard to earn his livelihood. Very he wants to reduce the heaviness of tuition fee on his mom and dad as much as viable.

During the last Christmas, he worked for longer duration to earn some further cash to gift his parents and little sister. Then he found http://www.manilaforwarder.com/.com on the internet.

On their homepage Manila Forwarder claimed that they are approved by both Filipino & US government. In addition there is exclusively one business beside them who has such approval. At last, they guaranteed the security and shipment of BALIKBYAN box by all means.

Next day he purchased some items with his hard earned cash for which he even sacrificed his Christmas! Then, he mailed those gifts by Manila Forwarders' Balikbayan box transportation service.

Delivering the BALIKBAYAN box with a reduced amount of delay was an alternative promise made by Manila Forwarders, but unluckily, his family didn't receive the box even after 25-30 days after transport.

Regarding this, he contacted Manila Forwarders but there was no answer at all. He even tried to call them but each time the operator told him the same story that they are reviewing the matter.

As thing was becoming not as good as, we advised him to visit the company's office. Then he met the marketing consultant of Manila Forwarders, Manny Paez. This man who is used to present himself as a well mannered and caring person just denied any charges against his company! Also he behaved insolently! He told that it’s my friend’s liability that the BALIKBAYAN box is not delivered; maybe he put a mistaken address! My friend firmly rejected and told if you call my home number then you will detect whether I put the erroneous address or not. Astute CEO of Manila Forwarder again behaved impolitely without telling sorry.

That’s the genuine face of Manila Forwarder. From my friend's experience, it's understandable that people should think twice before getting involved with Manila Forwarders. Find a risk-free way of BALIKBAYAN delivery.

  1. I also had a bad experienced with this company. For many years, I've been receiving a balikbayan box(from another company) from my family abroad and I never experience what I have experience lately. Before, whenever my family sends me a balikbayan box, It always arrives on time and if not will only be delayed for days but not MONTHS! Last year(2012), my husband sent me a box and was picked up by MFC agent last week of November 2012. I expected it to arrive by January but sad to say it arrived mid of February 2013..My husband sent me again another 2 balikbayan boxes and again was picked up by the agent of the same company which is MFC not realizing at that time that it would take for months and until now I haven't received it yet...Been calling the Manila office to follow up regarding my 2 balikbayan boxes and I complain to them too but until now, I don't have any good news from them yet.. It's so frustating and agonizing on my part cos there are a lot of valuable items in there and not only that, there are also canned goods, cereals and chocolates. I'm so worried that it already expired. I just hope other Filipinos will know about how bad this MFC company is so that they will not have a bad experience as mine. My husband is sending me another box next month but will never ever again send to this company.

  3. I used to be satisfied with their services not until lately when I sent a box last March 3, 2013 and until not it didn't arrive. I went to visit my family in the Philippines last May hoping that the box will arrive but unfortunately it didn't. My husband had to call the company here in the US as well as in Manila and Cagayan for several times and they just gave you a bunch of shit answers. I even called the guy in cagayan to deliver the box to our city which is two hours and a half away from Cagayan and he just said I will definitely will deliver it in one or two days. Very unprofessional people and they have no words at all!

  4. Terrible Customer Service. i shipped a box mid-April and it's nowhere to be found. I called them several times and my accounts person told me that they would call me back, obviously he never did! They said my box was wrongly shipped to Singapore instead of its original destination in the US. They cannot even provide me with a tracking number. Carlo Magno from manila office is very unreliable. he seems not to care at all and never returned my calls. i hope people will be smart enough not to trust their boxes with this company.

Oh Mam, by Monday because this a weekend. I called up Monday. I was told no schedule in my city for delivery and they have no TRUCK available. I called up Tuesday the lady asked for my number for the reason of updating me *kuno*. I called up Wednesday.. the lady wanted to ask for my number again.. I said wow you must be kidding me.!!!Here I am off to another island leaving my box to somebody else's hands or it might not even be here till I get back. Manilaforwarder HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDABLE!!!

  6. I have been using Manila Forwarders for years is very satisfied with their service. Their website has a tracking system that tells me when was it picked up all the way to it's arrival in the Philippines and to it's delivery. It also shows the person that received it. I am also amazed with their prompt reply especially via email. Sometimes their phones are always busy but I learned that it's faster to email them. Highly recommended.

  13. We must consider ourselves lucky. We received our furniture on time, only EVERYTHING WAS BROKEN. Everything. I tried contacting different people but they all point fingers at each other. Sonny Suarez, the owner of the franchise in Edmonton, does not return calls or reply to emails. Sadly, it is based on him non-Filipinos make their mind about Filipinos. Sad.

  14. My family is still waiting for the box I sent last February 2014. I went home in April, came back in May and up to today, my box has not been delivered. Can I hear from you Sonny Suarez as to where my box went?

  15. I sent my box in April this year. To date, box was not received by my family. Then, I found out that Sonny Suarez is no longer connected to Manila Forwarder company since 2012? Is this the truth?

  17. I have been using Manila Forwarder twice a year since the late 1900's when they opened in Los Angeles, CA. Its kinda funny that I am preparing my package now that I did a quick search on them as their old building at Eagle Rock in Los Angeles is already closed and getting ready to be demolished for the construction of a new building. I called the old phone number 1 800 2101019 and was able to talk to one of their employees who I remember to be with them for years. Yes they have moved to Northridge I was told but they still pick up all over California. I told them about some negative comments I saw online and they we're quick to tell me that those delays and opened boxes was brought by US Homeland Security inspections that is done randomly. Things in shipping have changed a lot and some people just do not realize the realities of shipping post 9-11. They said that they cannot do anything about those inspection complaints as no company is exempted from that. Well, I believe the girl employee that I talked to as I am a Law Enforcement Officer myself. The employee just ask me if I can share my thought online as some people took it to themselves to take it personally and maliciously malign the company online, even putting numerous websites just to complaints of the delays and opened packages not realizing that such is being done by USHS to protect the nation, I will still be a Manila Forwarder customer I do not mind those random inspections. I just have to send earlier than usual just in case my package get inspected.

  23. Again the same result and customer service the Philippine people are known for............ NOTHING!!! The Philippine people would rather ignore the problem or not acknowledge the problem. We have tried multiple times to email my request to track a lost shipment but it is just ignored. This is why the Philippines will remain a third world country!!!

  24. The website system works. We have no idea who you are or what package you are talking about. The Philippines, however, will move forward if we have compatriots who believe that the Philippines will improve and at par with the world market. Everyone just have to do their share to help and not be the cause of the problem. Do not hide on anonymity. Please do your share to make this a better world.

  25. I am glad that I used Manila Forwarder in my balikbayan box shipment to my relatives in Makati.

I have been using this company since 2001 and I have been relatively satisfied with their service. I have had some minor delays on my packages sometime in 2015 but I learned that it was caused by the US Homeland Security inspections that plagued the balikbayan box shipping industry after the 9/11 incident.

I learned that the company had a change of management sometime in 2013 to 2017.

Now when I just sent my balikbayan box, I learned that it is now back under the original management and it looks like they are back in providing great services again.

Of course, I am not expecting a lot for the price they are charging. Imagine that I used to send packages to Makati for around $300 and now I only pay about a quarter of it. I also understand the US Homeland inspection is for benefit. Not to mention of course the perineal traffic in the Philippines.

I guess, I just have to adjust and send my balikbayan boxes earlier compared before. What is important is that they get delivered and intact.

I told them that I am used to Manila Forwarder getting my balikbayan box package delivered in about a month. The Manila Forwarder customer service was honest and straight forward that balikbayan box shipment is subject to various factors that can delay the shipment time, like inspections, weather, flooding, traffic, among others.

They also explained to me that I have the option to use their one-week service via airplane. Of course, it would cost a little bit but they guarantee a real fast delivery service.

It makes sense that I get what I pay for. So I repacked my balikbayan box and used their one week service for the items that I need to have it there asap and sent the non-urgent items thru their regular balikbayan box service.

They were true to their words and my relatives received their urgent package in one week's time and the non-urgent items in a little over a month.

I give Manila Forwarder a 5 star. Thanks, guys!
